US reverses Guantanamo releases
| |
A US federal appeals court has overturned an earlier ruling that would have released 17 Guantanamo Bay detainees into the US, reports say.
The men are Uighur Muslims from China's Xinjiang region who were picked up in Afghanistan in 2001.
A US judge ruled last year that they were no longer enemy combatants and should be released.
China has requested their return, but the US will not send them home for fear they will be persecuted there.
